Since sometime after the 17th century, a wrapped garment called a Kira has been the national dress for Bhutanese women. Made from just a single piece of rectangular fabric folded ingeniously, pinned at the shoulders, and cinched at the waist, a Kira reminds us of the breahtaking beauty found in the deceptively simple. The popular kushutara-style pattern is emblematic of Bhutan’s cultural heritage surrounding the Kira.
